A Message To All Humankind   Leave a comment

A MESSAGE TO ALL HUMANKIND

Sometimes life is unpredictable.
It dictates things that you do not want to pursue,
nor do you wish to listen to.
But no matter how we resist life,
it won’t allow itself to lay unappreciated
and devalued for a long time.

For each day we live on this planet,
each breath we took when were awake
and each silent breath when we are asleep,
life is already in its existence.

For life is within us,
it envelops us in everything that we do.
It is there, silent and yet overbearing,
when we took our own paths,
when we mold our own destiny,
and when we choose wise and unwise decisions.

Decisions that might or might not
affect the way our life will be.
For no matter what path we choose,
life is always there.

Life is the essence of life.
Life is a God-given gift bestowed upon humankind.
Life is our life.
Without life, humanity would not have existed,
I would not have existed.

Life gives us the freedom to choose,
to see things in its pure goodness,
but above all, life gives us the ability to live on this planet.
For it is life that we found each other. For it is in life that we are one.

We are not only citizens in our own countries
but we are citizens of the world.
We are here because of life,
and we are here because we have life.
Live life to its fullest form.
Thank God for bestowing upon us life. Life is life.

Seattle Skyline, Seven Years Out   Leave a comment

To bring anything into your life, imagine that it’s already there.

*****

Same with anyone who’s been flying for years and loves it
still we’re part of a world we deeply love.
Just as musicians feel about scores and melodies,
dancers about the steps and flow of music,
so we’re one with the principle of flight,
the magic of being aloft in the wind!

“Too many Americans have twisted the sensible right to pursue happiness into the delusion that we are entitled to a guarantee of happiness. If we don’t get exactly what we want, we assume someone must be violating our rights. We’re no longer willing to write off some of life’s disappointments to simple bad luck.”

Tom and Kenne Turner

This is a posting I had drafted not knowing that I would be getting word Tom was in the hospital and after talking to my nieces and Tom’s nurse, made arrangements to fly to Seattle. It was not to be, Tom passed away November 13, 2014.

Much has happened since then , sharing, grieving and loving. What follows is the draft that was not finished. The video was put together the last time I saw Tom, which was at his daughter, Lisa’s wedding on the island of Lummi near Bellingham, Washington.

My brother has been in my thoughts a lot lately. For sometime now, he has not been responding to email and voice-mail. Lisa, his daughter tells me he has become a “bonafied hermit.”

“Healthy in body and mind,
I end my life before pitiless old age
which has taken from me my pleasure
and joys one after another,
and which has been stripping me
my physical and mental powers,
can paralyse my energy and break my will;
making me a burden to myself and others.
For some years I had promised myself not to live beyond 70;
and I fixed the exact year for my departure from life . . .”

— Paul Laforgue

Five Years Out   1 comment

kenne-kika-joy-on-patio-arriving_20100621_1287-blog-ii 2014 framedKenne, Kika & Joy, June 21, 2010 waiting for the movers.

Now we are starting our sixth year here, longer than most friends and family would have predicted, especially since Joy has not grown to love southern Arizona the way I have. The five years we have lived here have allowed us to experience most of the things we took into consideration in making the decision to move — a new adventure and be closer to Joy’s family in southern California.

We are now looking forward to year six in the desert southwest, which will include continuing to explore options, contrasted with more traveling. The following poem is titled “Birthday,” but could have very easily been titled, “Life.”

turned around,
here am I.
knowing how,
not the why.

young in heart
old in age.
feeling the itch,
pacing the cage.

inner peace,
knowing the thou.
learning to write
thesis of now.

turned around,
found love.
living the moment,
free as a dove.

still learning,
when to talk.
listening for,
beat of the walk.

reality is now,
truth in the heart.
singing the knowledge,
requiem to smart.

turned around,
found beauty in art.
traveling the future,
with Dylan and Descartes.

Alone In The Night Shadows II   6 comments

Alone in the night shadows

Abandoned in the darkness

Tall sentinels raise their arms

In the light of the full moon

Facing the old ranch house

Where the poet is signing

As the night-raven sings

In concert with howling coyotes

Under the alluring moonlight.

Continue To Digest The Emptiness

The wise teach,

all things are
connected in the Universe,
and remain so throughout time –

continue to digest the emptiness.

As gatekeepers

to all things connected
we open the gates to experience,
learning to love and care for others –

continue to digest the emptiness.

The foolish

give rise to aliens,
lacking knowledge of the whole,
“. . . see the dragon in my garage” –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Trying

to understand the messages
in our fleeing experiences,
seeking to be identical with the norm –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Yet,

our impermanent passing experience
is where knowledge exist,
maximizing the significance of the whole –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Unused knowledge

is not retained,
like the fruit of the tree,
decays as soon as it is ripe –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Seek not to ripen

on the tree of knowledge,
for knowledge that has crystallized
quickly loses clarity of the whole –

continue to digest the emptiness.

As our reality

is narrowed,
our ability to connect is lessened, thus
diminishing meaning and value –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Lacking actualization,

should not stop
us from crawling,

with the “struggling ant” –

continue to digest the emptiness.

Continue to crawl . . .

The Gatekeeper — Connecting Generation To Generation, Moment To Moment   7 comments

The Gatekeeper
(Connecting Generation to Generation, Moment to Moment)

I can still see him
walking the land
at the end of our day —
his long shadow
stretching across the land
saluting the setting sun,
listening to the breeze
slowly moving the trees
each in concert with the sunset.

Surveying his domain
in a moment of thanks,
collecting the feelings
inspired by nature’s
changing of the guard
continuing life’s connection
to all things now
and all things to come.

Even as before, I watch
him through youthful eyes
now knowing his thoughts
formed by years of experience
and a divine connection
to the rhythm of the ages,
the language of the universe.

Not just another sunset,
but a passing of the baton —
connecting the day with the night,
yesterday with tomorrow,
creating moments of recollection
of life’s passages from now to forever,
ensuring our never-ending existence.

Capturing The Moment — Silverpuff and Desert Chicory   6 comments

7 Falls April 2013Silverpuff and Desert Chicory — Image by kenne

They grow up together
maturing in the desert sun.

She became a
beautiful white flower —
chicory by name.

Soon one night
he blossomed
into a handsome
yellow flower
only to change
dramatically
by mid-morning
to a silver globe —
silverpuff by name.

Standing there alone
only she knew
of his conversion —
making his change
even more special.

Coupled together
to the earth
their offspring
scattered to the wind.

Soon the very elements
that nurtured
their beginning
will bring about
their ending.

doors remain open

attraction lost

now it’s time

you know it ain’t easy

to see another view

but, these feelings

won’t go away

echoing off all tomorrows

echoing . . .
