“Look,
There’s a spider.
A good year for spiders
Or so and so seems,
Incessantly weaving
Such gossamer schemes.”
— from Ken Nordine’s – A Good Year For Spiders
Self-portrait with a picture of Katie on the Wall (Approximately 1979)
“No one can tell what goes on in between
the person you were and the person you become.
No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell.
There are no maps of the change.
You just come out the other side.
Or you don’t.”
— Stephen King; The Stand

Abandoned In The Desert — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Stripped of its value
Kicked, shoot at, and abandoned
As Sonoran junk.

“Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.
Well there ain’t nothin’ wrong with the way she moves,
All scarlet begonias or a touch of the blues.
And there’s nothing wrong with the look that’s in her eyes
I had to learn the hard way to let her pass by, let her pass by.”
— from Scarlet Begonias by Jerry Garcia / Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead
Cathedral Alley, Jackson Square, New Orleans — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Jackson Square has many hidden wonders
As the morning fog climbs over the river banks.
When the sun opens old musky building cracks
When the cobblestone walk raises from its grave.
A breeze moves in bringing a touch of rain
Turning the smell of night to a fresh new day.
There’s a naked body moving down the alley
Leaving behind a senseless craving of desire.

It is necessary to run risks.
We only properly understand

Raven Lovebirds On Christmas Eve — Photo-Artistry by kenne
two ravens in a tree
on Christmas Eve
showing affection
bobbing heads in
silent communication
when with a quick nod
one flies off signaling
the other to follow —
contemplate the void
suddenly my eyes blear.

Abandoned Bunkhouse Windowsill — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Windowsills hold many stories,
Some we may know, most go untold.
Hiking trails near the Rio Santa Curz,
A broken barbwire fence guarded
An old adobe structure in a grove
Of common mesquite trees
Whose shadows form a matrix
Across the wintering landscape
Adding to a scene locked in the past
Waiting to be unlocked in a story.
Now I must turn and go back
Following the footsteps of the Pima.

December Brittlebush Blossoms In The Canyon — Photo-Artistry by kenne
My pace is slower
Hiking Sabino Canyon
On the trails I love.
I keep on hiking
Driven by native senses
To record nature.

Cattle Watering Hole In Southern Arizona — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Once beautiful desert grassland,
Now destroyed by cattle raising
On land unable to sustain
The native desert environment
Draining the groundwater levels in a
World of “pay me now, or pay me later.”

Sonoran Sunset — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Looking across the valley for miles
Through the high still air
I can’t remember things I once wrote
A few friends now, but most are gone.
