Abandoned Bunkhouse Windowsill   1 comment

Bunkhouse-Edit-1-painting-blogAbandoned Bunkhouse Windowsill — Photo-Artistry by kenne

Windowsills hold many stories,
Some we may know, most go untold.

Hiking trails near the Rio Santa Curz,
A broken barbwire fence guarded

An old adobe structure in a grove
Of common mesquite trees

Whose shadows form a matrix
Across the wintering landscape

Adding to a scene locked in the past
Waiting to be unlocked in a story.

Now I must turn and go back
Following the footsteps of the Pima.

Black-Throated Sparrow — Ofelia Sings For You   2 comments

Sparrow,

Black-throated friend of the cholla

and the palo verde,

Ofelia sings for you

over sleeping lands.

The sun kisses your soft breast

lighting up her heart

wounded by giant machines

scattering the bones

of the past

in the blue sky

above the walking ghosts

of nature’s hands.

Ghost of Desert Past

Standing high
on canyon’s edge,
the ghost of desert past
stands watch.

Resisting harsh winds,
while chiming to the beat ,
of erratic gusts that
threaten passersby
hiking Phoneline Trail.

For hundreds years
this canyon sentinel
maintains its charge.

Like old soldiers,
not to die,
only fading into time past,
already meeting with the
“vanished ones.”
