Wildflowers
You belong among the wildflowers,
You belong somewhere close to me.
Far away from your trouble and worries
You belong somewhere you feel free.

A Light Exists In Spring
A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period —
When March is scarcely here
A Color stands abroad
On Solitary Fields
That Science cannot overtake
But Human Nature feels.
It waits upon the Lawn,
It shows the furthest Tree
Upon the furthest Slope you know
It almost speaks to you.
Then as Horizons step
Or Noons report away
Without the Formula of sound
It passes and we stay —
A quality of loss
Affecting our Content
As Trade had suddenly encroached
Upon a Sacrament.
— Emily Dickinson

The Order of Things On This Day 1 comment
“The Order of Things” — Grunge Art by kenne
Grant me the courage to change the things I can change,
the serenity to accept the things I can’t change,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Become Happy, or Be a Philosopher Leave a comment

By all means marry;
if you get a good wife,
you’ll become happy;
if you get a bad one,
you’ll become a philosopher.

White-lined Sphinx Moth 1 comment
White-lined Sphinx Moth — Computer Art by kenne
I have lived my life as best I could not knowing its purpose,
but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon.
And here, at last, I discover a strange truth.
That I am only a conduit, for a message
that eludes my understanding.
When a Hike Becomes A Nature Walk Leave a comment
At first glance, you might think these two images are of the same mountain wildflower.
Wrong, my friend, with the help of fellow hiker and naturalist, David Dean,
I’m able to pass on the correct identification.
Mountain flowers have a way of slowing the pace of a hike to the pace of a nature walk, especially when hiking with very knowledgeable people — Thanks, David.

I will be the gladdest thing under the sun! I will touch a hundred flowers and not pick one.

Tiny wildflowers
often unnoticed
near the trail
secretly waving
to each hiker
sending a message
of caring love.

No man ever followed his genius till it misled him.
Though the result were bodily weakness,
yet perhaps no one can say that the consequences were to be regretted,
for these were a life in conformity to higher principles.
If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy,
and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs,
is more elastic, more starry, more immortal, … That is your success.
All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself.
The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated.
We easily come to doubt if they exist. We soon forget them.
They are the highest reality. … The true harvest of my daily life
is somewhat as intangible and indescribable as the tints of morning or evening.
It is a little star-dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.
— from Walden or Life in the Woods — Where I Lived, and What I Lived For by Henry David Thoreau

Bloom bloom, in desert lily
Thirst, sand, mirages silly,
White petals, fairy’s wings
Hope and love, thy petulant twigs!

Nature’s beauty is unquestionable,
yet unsatisfied with the image
captured in the moment,
many photographers use tools
to create a different perspective —
calling it art.

Desert Lupine — Photographed in Sabino Canyon by kenne
You can find this beautiful wildflower in the Sonoran Desert below 3,000 feet. A member of the Pea Family, lupines have distinctive flowers with one petal on top and two on the bottom.
