Desert Landscape — Image by kenne
“Alone in the silence, I understand for a moment the dread which many feel in the presence of primeval desert,
the unconscious fear which compels them to tame, alter or destroy what they cannot understand, to reduce the wild
and prehuman to human dimensions. Anything rather than confront directly the anti-human, that other world
which frightens not through danger or hostility but in something far worse – its implacable indifference.”
― Edward Abbey

Turned Around — Image by kenne
Turned around,
Here am I.
Knowing how,
Not the why.
Young in heart
Old in age.
Feeling the itch,
Pacing the cage.
Inner peace,
Knowing the thou.
Learning to write
Thesis of now.
Turned around,
Found love.
Living the moment,
Free as a dove.
Still learning,
When to talk.
Listening for,
Beat of the walk.
Reality is now,
Truth in the heart.
Singing the knowledge,
Requiem to smart.
Turned around,
Found beauty in art.
Traveling the future,

Naturalist — Image by kenne
NATURALIST
She cares about the environment
She questions the conditions
She seeks knowledge
She answers the questions
She is a problem solver
She accepts the facts
She shares her world
She sees limitless horizons
She lives in the moment
She is a naturalist.

November Sunset — Moment Captured by kenne
Nature provides the beauty
and at best, I can only try,
try to capture the moment
for which, I’m thankful.

The Dragon-fly
Today I saw the dragon-fly
Come from the wells where he did lie.
An inner impulse rent the veil
Of his old husk: from head to tail
Came out clear plates of sapphire mail.
He dried his wings: like gauze they grew;
Thro’ crofts and pastures wet with dew
A living flash of light he flew.

This male pyrrhuloxia looks a lot like a female Northern Cardinal and its song is nearly identical to the cardinal.

Notes On A Sedona Morning
After mornings of hiking,
sitting on the big rock summit–
sun in my face, I find myself
drinking coffee on the
Wildflower Bread Company patio
surrounded by red rock towers,
ants at my feet and
young women taking selfies.
I like solitude, but
sometimes it’s nice
to be alone in the
middle of humanity —
a prisoner of my condition.
Sorry, no pictures of food.
My cup of coffee
not worth posting.
Maybe the plus-size women
eating big puffy bread
potato-egg sandwiches
wouldn’t mind if I take a picture of
their breakfast, but
I’m not going to ask –
something tells me
they weren’t up at 5:00am hiking.
The conversation turned to
what to eat for lunch . . .
