Desert Evening Primrose — Grunge Art by kenne
I grow
in the bajadas
along rocky slopes
pushing aside
dry gravel
in search of sun.
No rain
shortens my growth,
hastening
my buds
to open early
in the cool
of the evening,
closing by
mid-morning.
I am
a primrose,
oenothera primiveris
by name.

We Are Family: Four Years Out (First posted four years ago.)– Image by kenne
Female Phainopepla — Computer Painting by kenne
The cool wind blew in my face
and all at once I felt as if I had
shed dullness from myself.
Before me lay a long gray line
with a black mark down the center.
The birds were singing.
It was spring.

For Whom The Bell Tolls
No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
— John Donne

Some day are blurry
Not clear but full of colors
I see much better.

Western Bluebird — Computer Painting by kenne
When you find yourself
out on a limb alone
it’s best to be a bird.

I stare at shadows,
looking for answers
in deep caverns
of my soul,
only to see them
blurred by others
as water
in the stream
of life
rushes by.

A raven morning
Darkness is fading away
But leave us the wind.

Having been born in the month of January, and given my independent nature, I feel a relationship to what some Native Americans called the Wolf Moon since it appeared when hunger wolves howled outside their villages. Technically the Wolf Moon occurred on the 11th. I seem to have more success in photographing the moon just before sunrise, so this Wolf Moon image was taken as it was about to set over the Tucson mountains on the 12th.
On cold winter nights
Hunger wolves howl at the moon
A midnight high point.

For me,
I like moving to some extremity,
some kind of very difficult situation,
that throws an interesting light on life.

Dance with the Wind — Computer Art by kenne
Dance with the Wind
I can’t remember the first time I was asked,
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
I do remember it was not the last,
each time dancing out whom I wanted to be.
Projecting an image, more than motion,
more than a reflex, it was a feeling
transformed in the act of being.
In my freedom of expression,
adults loved the movement,
reflecting an awareness of where I was —
often lost in their youth.
As time went by, answering the question
became more difficult,
movement losing feeling
as I went through the motions,
coming under the influence of fashion
unaware of the freedom
evoked by experiencing the feeling.
By way of schooling,
I learned society’s dance steps.
The more I practiced each step,
the better I dealt with the known,
ignorant of conventional limitations
being placed on the unknown.
Still, going through the motions
was not without the sound
of Mother’s words;
“Always be yourself.”
playing in the background.
The music of her caring words
handing me a string to the kite of life,
without which I would not be able
to dance with the wind.
By hanging on to her lifeline,
I learned the wind was my friend,
forming a rhythm alliance,
enhancing my feeling for the dance.
Each step tapping to the music,
dancing in the wonder of life,
gliding in the midst of reality,
the dance always being new,
personal,
alive.

A solstice night
in the dead of winter,
strategically placed lighting
on the courtyard wall.
Dark shadows imprinted
beyond the naked trees,
in this gloomy season of mists,
concealing signs of winter’s damage,
where only ghosts abound.
Tomorrow morning
the low sun starts
a minute-by-minute journey back,
not behind, but within
it’s new spring companion.
But for now,
nature remains soulfully raw.

Giant Owl Butterfly — Computer Art by kenne
To be fully human is to be wild.
Wild is the strange pull
and whispering wisdom.
It’s the gentle nudge
and the forceful ache.
It is your truth,
passed down from the ancients,
and the very stream of life in your blood.
Wild is the soul where
passion and creativity reside,
and the quickening of your heart.
Wild is what is real, and wild is your home.
