Monsoon Sunset in the Catalina Foothills — Panorama by kenne
Desert Monsoon
The clouds are stacking up high
In that clear blue afternoon sky
Turning the scorching sun to mere silver lining
Raising a cool hope in all desert being
Is that the long-awaited monsoon coming?
Who would know?
The wind blows westward steadfast
Giving the convoy of clouds a warm piggyback
But who knows when…?
The clouds will turn into precious monsoon rain
Or just evaporate spontaneously once again!
Oh monsoon rain
You kept us all in clear suspense
Desert being are dreaming of you for so long
Are you, or are you not visiting us soon?
The clouds have covered the June evening sky
Colored light brown like bowl of boiled rice
Signaling monsoon rain may be on its way
Sooner we can hope for something real nice!

Storms Move Into the Santa Catalina’s (August 31, 2015) — Images by kenne
A reported 5 inches of rain on Mt. Lemmon in the last 24 hours.
My rain gauge in the Catalina foothills recorded .5 of an inch.
Smoke and Fire Above the Catalina Foothills (August 5, 2015) — Images by kenne
This fire, located in the Finger Rock trail area, was started by lightning a couple of days ago and was burning itself out, but the heat, low humidity and winds brought it back up today. This fire is about 12 miles from where we are located in Tanuri Ridge.

Five years ago we moved to Tucson, Arizona from The Woodlands, Texas (located north of Houston). Then as now, our friends and family couldn’t believe we were leaving our home of over 25 years. There is still plenty of discussion as to whether it was a good move or not.
As a visitor to the site, you know my images reflect my appreciation for Arizona’s beauty. But, what about the heat, “it’s hot in the summer time,” you say. Yes, the temps are high, averaging 101 degrees for a high in July.
As most people know, dry heat is more comfortable than humid heat. Example: Yesterday it was 99 degrees in Tucson, but felt like 93 degrees. Houston had a high of 93 degrees, but it felt like 99 degrees. Additionally, in Tucson if it’s too hot to spend much time outside, in a 45 minute drive we can be on Mt. Lemmon where yesterday’s high was 69 degrees.
Let’s face it, since I think in art I’m just trying to confirm my existence — my existential moment.
