December Snow   1 comment

morning snow on the catalinas-art-72December Snow (View off Our Patio) — Photo-Artistry by kenne

A low cloud at the mountain base
provides a blanket of warmth
for the Catalina Foothills after
an overnight dusting of snow.

The higher clouds begin to break
allowing the morning sun to
shine over the mountain canyons
bringing a new awakening view.

Greater Roadrunner On A Southwest Day   2 comments

I watch him as he ponders my presence,
only a temporary distraction from
the lizard now locked in step
blinding into the tree bark
disposing of intricate patterns.
Soon the runner disappears
into some unknown world,
no known direction, dissolving
into the brink, yet native lands.

Desert Monsoon Sunset Panorama   1 comment

Desert Monsoon

The clouds are stacking up high
In that clear blue afternoon sky
Turning the scorching sun to mere silver lining
Raising a cool hope in all desert being
Is that the long-awaited monsoon coming?
Who would know?
The wind blows westward steadfast
Giving the convoy of clouds a warm piggyback
But who knows when…?
The clouds will turn into precious monsoon rain
Or just evaporate spontaneously once again!

Oh monsoon rain
You kept us all in clear suspense
Desert being are dreaming of you for so long
Are you, or are you not visiting us soon?

The clouds have covered the June evening sky
Colored light brown like bowl of boiled rice
Signaling monsoon rain may be on its way
Sooner we can hope for something real nice!

mountains
on high
are dry
months
without rain
now burning
leaving behind
gray dirt
black trees
left unguarded
by the gods
a troubled land
covered
in the sin
of silence

On December 18th, the  DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun hosted La Fiesta de Guadalupe. This annual festival honors Mexico’s patron saint, Our Lady of Guadalupe, with music, dancing, and performances including mariachi bands, folkloric dancers, the Yaqui Deer Dancers, and Domingo DeGrazia’s Spanish-guitar band. Domingo is the son of Ettore “Ted” DeGrazia Tucson’s most famous and no doubt most prolific artist.

Only Earth. Earth.
Earth for trembling tablecloths,
for a cloud’s vicious eyeball,
for recent wounds and dampened thoughts.
Earth for everything the flees from earth.
