They cannot scare me with their empty spaces
Between stars – on stars where no human race is.
I have it in me so much nearer home
To scare myself with my own desert places.

Two o’clock in the afternoon
temperatures and humidity
in the low eighties.

The rain has gone for now.
Still, I’m wet with sweat
as the clouds hold on.

Soon three digit temperatures
and single digit humidity
will return to the canyon,

and we will retreat to
cooler hiking temperatures
on Mt. Lemmon trails.

Water Is Now Flowing In Sabino Canyon Quenching A Giant Thurst   1 comment

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-2 blogVisitors to Sabino Canyon were pleased to see water in the creek, the first time since the spring.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-3 blogThe water for now is flowing over the Bear Canyon low-water crossing.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-4 blogWater is also going over the low-water crossing below the Sabino Canton dam.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-9 blogThe area along the creek has been so dry that even the willows near the dam have dropped their leaves,
looking more like late fall rather August.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-10 blogThis ash tree, home to a Cooper’s hawk nest has also lost a lot of its leaves.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-11 blogThe water is providing a welcome relief from this year’s draught.

Water in the creek (1 of 1)-12 blogThe creek will continue to flow as long as the Catalina Mountains receive Monsoon rains.

Capturing The Moment, Again — Columbine Wildflower   7 comments

Columbine (1 of 1)_blogColumbine Wildflower On the Mt. Lemmon Meadow Trail — Image by kenne

The monsoon rains are bringing on the Mt. Lemmon wildflowers. One of my favorite wildflowers is the columbine. Even though I have a lot of columbine photos, it’s beauty always makes me feel as if I’m photographing it for the first time — something poetic about that, don’t you think?

Enjoy!

Trash in the Santa Cruz River North of Nogales, Arizona — Images by kenne

a river flawed
has gone underground

disappearing
from sight

leaving behind
life turning to death

maturing trees
casting shadows

falling branches
replacing their shadows

moving with
monsoon floods

gathering a
cultural wasteland

mixing with
yesterday’s dreams

filling, temporarily
a river flawed

“What did we do before the monsoon rains?” — The Sonoran Desert Toad, Arizona’s Largest Toad

Images by kenne

Thanks to recent rains, there’s now water running in Sabino Creek and over the dam. New life is in evidence everywhere, and the lake above the dam has become a toad playground.

I wonder what Jeremiah is smoking?Jeremiah was a bullfrog, he was a good friend of mine” — all toads are frogs, did you know that?

Boy And Girl — Poetry Of Love   Leave a comment

Boy and Girl — Poetry of Love — Image by kenne

Poetry of love,
Classic boy pouring water,
She embraces it.

Evening  monsoon clouds
Hug and Color the sunset,
We embrace it

A wet olive tree
Dropping over the fountain,
Life embraces it.
