Eastern Collared Lizard — Image by kenne
With fall in the air,
lizards will be out of sight
only to be seen on a rock
in the desert sunlight —
it’s the natural
order of things.

Eastern Collared Lizard (April 2011) — Image by kenne
Sunning on a rock
Most colorful of lizards
Pose for me, baby.

Hot, dry, brown and gray
Not this colorful lizard
Posing on a rock.
Maybe she will see
Him in his many colors
Posing on a rock.
Watch him arch his back
Puff out his sides to look big
As he does push-ups.

Another sign of spring in the desert are our reptile friends, most scurrying about making it difficult to photograph. But not the eastern collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris), who like to pose for you on a nearby rock.
Welcome back, my friend — it is spring time in the Sonoran desert.

This eastern collared lizard was very tolerant of my time near him. — Image by kenne
It is easy to be intrigued
by this colorful lizard
looking eye to eye
as if the intrigued
is back at you —
captivating.

Another sign of spring in the desert are our reptile friends, most scurrying about making it difficult to photograph. But not the eastern collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris), who like to pose for you on a nearby rock. I have other photos of the lizard from earlier springs, and could have easily used one of them, but this image was taken a week ago.
Welcome back, my friend — it is spring time in the Sonoran desert.

The Eastern Collared Lizard is a beautiful lizard — the most beautiful in southern Arizona.
This lizard was first spotted in the brush along the Douglas Springs Trail,
then climbed up on a near-by rock to pose for me.
