“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder . . .
he [or she] needs the companionship of at least one adult
who can share it, rediscovering the joy, excitement, and
mystery of the world we live in.”

Ken Requard Painting In Sabino Canyon (Kenrequard.com) — Photo-Artistry be kenne
This is the second posting on Ken’s painting in Sabino Canyon, the first was last Friday (March 1, 2019). What a perfect time of year to be painting in Sabino Canyon, especially creek scenes.
“I find my inspiration in the created world but it is just a starting point on the journey of creating art. I am excited to find the inner essence of a place or a moment in time and then apply my own emotions. It is exciting to see the right shapes, colors and values come together. Each element in a painting (a shape with value and color) is like a note in music. In a pleasing musical composition, there are just the right number and type of notes in the right arrangement.” — Ken Requard

We walk
the lower canyon
after spring rains.
The creek
runs swiftly from
mountain snow pelt.
Cottonwoods
beginning to leaf,
wildflowers
cover the ground —
a new cycle of life.

Floating Leaves
A light rain falls on leaves
Floating on the shallow water
Above the Sabino Creek dam
On a gray sky January day
Forgetfull of all except the silence.

“In the Moment” Photo-Artistry by kenne
In the moment
She ponders life
Resting attention
On the slowly
Moving backwaters
Cascading between
Two large boulders
Picking up speed
Before being captured
In a large pool of water.

I wanted a good place to settle:
Cold Mountain would be safe.
Light wind in a hidden pine —
Listen close — the sound gets better.
Under it a gray-haired man
Mumbles along reading Huang and Lao.
For ten years I haven’t gone back home
I’ve even forgotten the way by which I came.

“I’ll Take My Spring On the Rocks” (Sabino Creek near the dam.) — Image by kenne
“When you sit in silence long enough,
you learn that silence has a motion.
It glides over you without shape or form,
exactly like water. Its color is silver.
And silence has a sound you hear
only after hours of wading inside it.
The sound is soft,
like flute notes rising up,
like the words of glass speaking.
Then there comes a point
when you must shatter
the blindness of its words,
the blindness of its light.”
