After a morning run
on a chilly desert morning,
I walked out on the patio
with a cup of black coffee.
Noticing a
Great Purple Hairstreak
on the patio floor, motionless
from the forties temperature,
And wanting to help her
on her morning flight,
I placed her in the sun
on the patio wall
Where she fail on her side
a couple of times
before finally steadying
herself in the sunlight.
Taking longer
than expected
for her to take flight,
I went inside for more coffee.
Returning to the patio,
the countdown was completed,
I had missed her liftoff —
Mission accomplished.
