Montgomery County Friends of the Blues, 2002   Leave a comment

Fundraiser at Tut’s
Friends of the blues are partying
In downtown Conroe.

Plenty of whiskey
As a chaser for the blues
With AJ and the gang.

Looking back in time
Blues is a mighty long road
One with twists and turns.

Dylan’s Heaven’s Door
Covered by Blues and Rock bands
Now a whiskey brand.

My dream has come true
A perfect combination
Whiskey and the Blues.

Showcasing Dylan’s
Black Buffalo iron gates
Cover each bottle.

A Song of Silence   Leave a comment

A Song of Silence

Music is
what enables you
in your work,
soothes you
when you rest
reminds you
of images past
of dreams yet fulfilled.
It is not the words,
nor the beat,
nor the instruments,
nor the relationships.
It is the rhythm
of the moments,
composed by
the silence between.

Which One Is The Real James   1 comment

James is a challenge to photograph — Images by kenne

The quiet of Christmas morning,
everyone is still asleep as the sun
comes through the front windows

where the traveling bonsai trees,
Fica and Camellia, cast their shadows
on the table under the windows.

The smell of fresh coffee brewing
made special this morning, having
mixed in mocha with the Pike Place.

Later, the dogs enter the kitchen
having concluded their mistress
isn’t getting up to let them out.

Checking the Weather Channel App
having added towns where
family and friends live

from coast to coast,
Kate in the Northeast
and Lisa in the Northwest

are experiencing
the white Christmas
others can only dream.

The Oldest Blues Bar In Texas   Leave a comment

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADouble Bayou Dance Hall (October 19, 2002) — Image by kenne

Down the road from Jackson’s Grocery
the blues was hangin’ on the hot, humid breeze
at Pete’s place where Bar-B-Q was served on
white bread off the back of an old pick-up truck.

On weekends the blues would be swinging through
the tall gulf coast pines of southeast Texas
attracting outsiders from Houston to hear
Pete sing and play The Blues at the Double Bayou.

By chance the life of Pete and the dance hall ended in 2008 —
Hurricane Ike destroyed the dancehall in September,
and after years of poor health, Pete passed away
the following December. He was 70 — for Pete’s sake!

Granddad Art II blogGranddad with New Born Granddaughter, Katelyn (September 24, 2003)

I was going through my photo archives today and updated the first photo with Katelyn.

Make me an angel
My grandchild bundle of joy
I held her up close.
