“Let’s Dance, Grandma” — James and Joy (October 2, 2021)
Last week James, Jill, and Hugh visited us for six days from Houston. In addition to taking in sites around Tucson,
we went north to Sedona, Flagstaff, and The Grand Canyon. Here are a few images from the Sedona area.

James is a challenge to photograph — Images by kenne
The quiet of Christmas morning,
everyone is still asleep as the sun
comes through the front windows
where the traveling bonsai trees,
Fica and Camellia, cast their shadows
on the table under the windows.
The smell of fresh coffee brewing
made special this morning, having
mixed in mocha with the Pike Place.
Later, the dogs enter the kitchen
having concluded their mistress
isn’t getting up to let them out.
Checking the Weather Channel App
having added towns where
family and friends live
from coast to coast,
Kate in the Northeast
and Lisa in the Northwest
are experiencing
the white Christmas
others can only dream.

Galveston Beach Front Devastation (September 13, 2008) –Source: http://strangecosmos.com/
Water’s Rising
water’s rising, and you who were caught
in last year’s flood, you are ready to scramble
onto the roof of the car and scream
but on this lonely backstreet, with a good
meal still warm in my belly and the wine
still sweet in my mouth, there are no lights
there is no cell phone, no traffic
no friendly strangers out for a stroll —
there is only the dark, and the current

Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, Texas (September 13, 2008)
Born in the Eye of the Storm
A storm in the Gulf
Satellite views as big as Texas
On track for Galveston
Strong winds of medium strength
Pushing a wall of seawater
People boarding up windows
Placing valuables in cars
Preparing to run from the storm
Others preparing to shelter-in-place,
Hoping the storm will turn away
Outer bands begin coming ashore
Bringing water from the sky and the Gulf
Providing a taste of things to come
As cars head north, one is headed south
With baby to be born
Arriving at the Medical Center
The delivery process begins
Outside the winds gain strength
Choreographed with mother’s labor
Moving toward a crescendo of life
Suddenly, there is peace and calm
As a baby is born in the eye of the storm
A prince of strength – symbol of the storm
A prince of peace – symbol of the eye
Forever in the eye of the storm.

A Day in the West Jeep Tour (June 15, 2016) Images by kenne
During our recent brief stay in Sedona, Jill, James, Joy and I went on a two hour jeep tour behind Thunder Mountain. I used James as an excuse to finally get Joy out on a back-country jeep tour. Considering that Joy was still recovering from surgery, she did quite well.

How much longer before we will be there?
I’m not having fun! I’m tired! I’m hunger! Let’s stop now!
This is not where I wanted to eat! I don’t like the food!
I will disrupt others trying to eat. Time for a selfie.
