Empress Leilia On A Foothills Wildflower — Image by kenne
The Empress Leilia lands,
her wings a hush of amber light.
One brief throne—
a wildflower trembling
under her grace.
The mountain holds its breath
to watch beauty pause.
The desert bows once,
then forgets.

Empress Leilia Butterfly Painting — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Fall creeping through a dusty sky
Another wind blown gray shadow
The piercing thorns tear at wings
Yellows and oranges muscling loose
Only someday to tire of the journey
Knowing the winds inevitable gyre.

Empress Leilia Butterfly — Image by kenne
I dreamed I was a butterfly,
flitting around in the sky;
then I awoke.
Now I wonder:
Am I a man
who dreamt of being a butterfly,
or am I a butterfly
dreaming that I am a man?

Colors of butterfly images
depend heavily on lighting
and angle of the sunlight,
which can make identification
a challenge for novice
butterfly watchers.

Empress Leilia Butterfly On A Horsemint Blossom, Mt. Lemmon, Arizona (I had trouble identifying this plant, but Ann Green came to my rescue!)
— Images by kenne
Currently there are few wildflowers on Mt. Lemmon, so it’s slim picking for this Empress Leilia butterfly. At least the wings are not a battered as the Empress Leilia image captures a week earlier.
