Empress Leilia On A Foothills Wildflower — Image by kenne
The Empress Leilia lands,
her wings a hush of amber light.
One brief throne—
a wildflower trembling
under her grace.
The mountain holds its breath
to watch beauty pause.
The desert bows once,
then forgets.

Sunset Over the Foothills — Image by kenne
Foothills
I live in the foothills,
where the wash remembers water
only when the mountains weep.
Each evening the sun disappears,
carrying my thoughts
into the galaxies—
a secret treasure left behind,
not a thing you can hold,
but a presence you feel.
Shadows walk the ridges,
enter the flesh of the earth.
Night comes with its gift:
fifteen winters of stars,
fifteen winters of silence.
And I drink—
not wine,
but the ancient medicine
of wonder.

Sunset Over The Tucson Mountains — Image by kenne
My home is in the foothills,
Down near the wash
Where water flows
When it rains in the mountains.
Each day I watch the sunset
Gone, a million thoughts
Now traveling through the galaxies
Leaving nature’s priceless treasure.
It is not a thing, yet it is before me
Only to be concealed by shadows
Walking across the mountains
Sinking deeply into earth’s flesh.
I live in the foothills,
Now five winters, where each night
I’m happy resting among the stars
Drinking the ancient medicine.

Tonight I see stars above
Last night darkened clouds
Provide natures fireworks program.

While in southern California, I was driving in the foothills of Rancho Cucamonga an just couldn’t pass up taking a few photos.
