Prickly Pear Fruit

In capturing the moment,

reality

is rephrased

making use of light and

angles between objects,

creating an illusion

of space and distance —

a new view of reality.

The new reality

brings with it

a rhythm,

and sound

resonating

with the soul –

hopefully,

with the viewer.

The image

becomes a model

of what is real —

what is real is

imagined –

the affirmation

of nature.

The artist adds,

or takes away —

still real,

but totally invented

and fully imagined –

the objectification

of feeling.

The new reality

is shaped

and nurtured

from the past,

erased and reinvented —

if the artist is lucky

the new image

will seem more real

and more true.

Autumn Song

BY DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI

Know’st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the heart feels a languid grief
Laid on it for a covering,
And how sleep seems a goodly thing
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf?
And how the swift beat of the brain
Falters because it is in vain,
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf
Knowest thou not? and how the chief
Of joys seems—not to suffer pain?
Know’st thou not at the fall of the leaf
How the soul feels like a dried sheaf
Bound up at length for harvesting,
And how death seems a comely thing
In Autumn at the fall of the leaf?

Here we go round the prickly pear
