The cactus plants seem to survive almost anything. Can the prickly pear come back after the drought? Is there a way it either has a root network or can reseed in some way? It’s hard to imagine them just disappearing in the canyon.

Once they die, that’s pretty much it. However, they are easy to grow by taking a pad, stick it in the ground, and water it so it can get established.
