Communicating With Nature   Leave a comment

Morning Shadows in the Canyon with a Friend (Greater Roadrunner)– Images by kenne

Surprise

Since moving to the Sonoran Desert,
I have had the time and inclination to
Communicate with the stars, trees,
And animals; able to live more intensely.

To walk in the morning as the sun
Comes up over the Rincon Mountains
Casting long shadows along the path as
The sky keeps its freshness from the night.

The air is crisp. I watch as birds fly by
Evoking in my thoughts, the dawn breeze
Becomes brisker, creating movement sounds
Percussion for the bird’s songs.

Morning Shadows In The Sonoran Desert — Photo-Artistry by kenne

Yes, the sun has risen again.
I can see the windows change and hear a dog barking.
The wind buckles the slender top of the alder,
the conversation of night birds hushes,
and I can hear my heart regular and strong.
I will live to see the day end as I lived to see
the earth turn molten and white, then to metal,
then to whatever shape we stamped into it
as we laughed the long night hours away
or sang how the eagle flies on Friday.
When Friday came, the early hours perfect
and cold,
we cursed our only lives
and passed the bottle back and forth.

Don’t tell me the sun is shining,

show me the shadows in the morning light.

I learn from the shadows,

which delivers the dawn’s music.

The shadows have taught me

the importance of being different.

With the music and being different

providing the power to go deep within.

Together I hear the words

that guide me through the day.
