We are now nearing the final leg of our road trip that began on August 7th. We have been in many states from
Arizona to Maine and have taken hundreds of photos, many of which will later appear on this blog with my
observations.
We are now in Houston, our previous home, before moving to Tucson eleven years ago, visiting family and friends.
On Thursday of this week, we had lunch at Birraporetti’s, an upscale and lavish Italian restaurant/Irish bar in
the theater/business district for over 30 years. Because of the pandemic and especially the recent virus spike
in the Houston area, there were only two other customers in this large eatery/bar.
This was not surprising, however very sad.

The tales of Judge Roy Bean are legendary; he is known as the “Law West of the Pecos.” He established his
courthouse about 1882 in Langtry, Texas, just south of Pecos, but since he was a circuit judge he held court
periodically in Pecos where he would back up his wagon and team of mules and set up court at the present day
location of the Sheriff’s Department.

Packing for the road and making sure house plant have plenty of water. Hopefully we have covered all the bases. The trip will be 6,300 miles to visit family and friends linking the following cities:
Tucson to Pecos — August 7th
Pecos to Dallas — August 8th
Dallas to Meridian — August 9th
Meridian to Savana — August 10th
Savana to Charleston — August 11th-12th
Charleston to Richmond — August 13th-16th
Richmond to Grantham — August 17th-20th
Grantham to Winchester — August 21st
Winchester to Chattanooga — August 23rd
Chattanooga to Baton Rouge — August 24t
Baton Rouge to Houston — August 25th
Houston to Ft. Stockton — August 30th
Ft. Stockton to Tucson — August 31st

Road Trip Preparation Leave a comment
Our yard and patio have a lot of drought-resistant plants, including several types of cactus and succulents. Additionally, we have a few tropical plants that need regular watering, even during the monsoon season. Irrigation being irrigation, meaning problematic, I routinely have to replace sections of PVC flexible hose. Since we will be gone for a little over three weeks, I’ve been working to minimize any potential problems. In the past couple of weeks, I have repaired four leeks and yesterday replaced the timer.
