Political signs were a common sight on our August road trip, especially in Texas and the southeast.— Image by kenne
“You are never dedicated to something you have complete confidence in. No one is fanatically shouting that the sun
is going to rise tomorrow. They know it’s going to rise tomorrow. When people are fanatically dedicated to political
or religious faiths or any other kinds of dogmas or goals, it’s always because these dogmas or goals are in doubt.”

We arrived in Short Pump in the late afternoon on August 13th, where we would spend the next three days with Jason and family.
Short Pump is a suburb of Richmond, Virginia. The population was 24,729 at the 2010 census.
This posting is the second of three that will be shared of our stay in Short Pump.
Here’s a link to the first posting — https://kenneturner.com/2021/09/09/time-with-grandchildren-at-swimming-pool-a-photo-essay/
The older grandchildren will be part of the third in this series of three postings on our visit to Short Pump.

After spending time driving and sightseeing in the southeast (as COVID-19 was spiking through the area)
we made it to Richmond, VA, where we spent time with family (Jason, April, Cayden, Cayla, Audrey, and Robin).
This was our first opportunity to spend time with our new grandchildren Cayla and Cayden.

We are now nearing the final leg of our road trip that began on August 7th. We have been in many states from
Arizona to Maine and have taken hundreds of photos, many of which will later appear on this blog with my
observations.
We are now in Houston, our previous home, before moving to Tucson eleven years ago, visiting family and friends.
On Thursday of this week, we had lunch at Birraporetti’s, an upscale and lavish Italian restaurant/Irish bar in
the theater/business district for over 30 years. Because of the pandemic and especially the recent virus spike
in the Houston area, there were only two other customers in this large eatery/bar.
This was not surprising, however very sad.

A replica of the Judge Roy Bean Court House in Pecos, Texas (August 7, 2021) — Image by kenne
The tales of Judge Roy Bean are legendary; he is known as the “Law West of the Pecos.” He established his
courthouse about 1882 in Langtry, Texas, just south of Pecos, but since he was a circuit judge he held court
periodically in Pecos where he would back up his wagon and team of mules and set up court at the present day
location of the Sheriff’s Department.

― On the Road
Our second night on the road was spent in Ft. Worth. Before going to our hotel, we spent some time in Sundance Square,
located downtown Ft. Worth.
