Lemon Blossom

Fragrance was her forte,
and she wore it well.
Swaying to Fado,
eyes closed to this
unfathomable longing
delivered into song.
She stayed close to you,
scented like the flowers
she was named for,
until your knees
weakened and all
you could say
was,*Yes.
Yes, you are all
I could ever want.
Tonight, or
any other night.
Fragrant,
dancing, loving life
with every exquisite
inclination of your
beautiful, profound mind,
your lovely, ripened body.

What Is A Lemon?   Leave a comment

Meyer Lemon Blossoms — Photo-Artistry by kenne

What is a lemon?
Is it a seed?
A blossom?
Pollen?
Fruit?
A tree?

All the above,
each is a stage
playing a part —
connection of parts
forming a whole
in nature.

Always dependent
on water
on sunlight
on bees
on wind
on nature.

Patio Lemon Tree — Image by kenne

We have had a potted Meyer lemon plant on our patio for several years.
We fertilize and water it regularly. The record-setting desert heat this year
has been rough on our small plant. Some of the lemons formed splits in the surface.
This is the first year we have experienced the splitting. In addition to the hotter
than normal temperatures, we have had a little over two inches of rain,
which is about four inches less than normal for this time of year.

This year we still have 15 lemons on the plant, which is not a lot for this plant.
A couple years back we harvested 55 lemons.

This past spring our potted lemon tree had three lemons from the few blossoms on the small tree. They are now near being harvested. Mean while the three is blossoming, with some new lemons already on the tree.

Now much of the west had a weather low that is bring freezing weather. Last night we had rain, with snow on Mount Lemon. Tomorrow morning’s low will be below freezing here in Tucson — time to cover some of the more tender plants.
