If Only I Could Tell Stories Like John Henry Faulk — The Christmas Story   4 comments

John Henry Faulk‘s, “The Christmas Story,” being out those “country boy” childhood days deep inside — if only I could tell stories like this great Texas humorist.

Snow Covered Christmas Trees On Mt. Lemmon, December 2011 — Image by kenne

Some of the recent postings chronicled my drive up to Mt. Lemmon after heavy snowfall last week. The above image serves as a cover to a slideshow of the photos I captured in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Given the season, having all these winter snow images reflect the white Christmas image we all have seen or carry as a mental image. Click here to see the show.

Merry Christmas Baby — This One Is For You!   4 comments

In the Blues world, Texas City nature, Charles Brown, was best known for his rendition of the classic Blues song, “Merry Christmas Baby,” which is my favorite.

However, another excellent rendition was done by Elvis Presley, where he shows how good a bluesman he was. Too bad more of his music wasn’t done in this classic Blues style.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, BABY!

Here’s wishing you a Blues, Blues, Christmas.

Sonny Boy Terry and Rich DelGrosso — Amazing Grace, Revised   2 comments

In the spirit of the Season, I’m again posting a video recorded at Ken & Mary’s Blues Project, October 2009. I have been fortunate to see Sonny Boy Terry and Rich DelGrosso play together on many a occassion. Together they create a natural down-home feel that is best exemplified by their rendition of Amazing Grace. This was the last tune they did before the next band. Darkness had settled in and the resulting video is a little dark, so I included some still photos along with the dark video footage to give the viewer a better feel. However, it’s the audio that really counts. This tune is always a request of Ken & Mary at their house concerts.

Hiking On Christmas Day   1 comment

Ventana Canyon (Darker area in center) Images by kenne

This Christmas was the first time in years without family, so we spent it hiking and swimming. We hiked for about two hours in Ventana Canyon, which is about a ten minute drive from our house. We thought we would be alone on the trail, but many others took advantage of 70 degree weather and great outdoors. The above picture was taken from our patio, zooming in on the canyon. We hope to make this an annual Christmas Day activity.
