Blood Moon Collage blogBlood Moon Collage (September 27, 2015) — Image by kenne

Last night’s sky was clear, making this special event even more special to photograph. This blood moon was also a supermoon (when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to our earth), making for a “super blood moon”, which hasn’t happen in 33 years.

The images were taken with a Nikon D800, using a 28.0-300.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens — manual exposure; 300 mm focal length; f/5.7; auto white balance.

“Super Moon” Sunset — Image by kenne

A short walk down from our house is the Rillito River. Yesterday at sunset, I walked down along the river to prepare to take some photos of the super moon. While waiting for the moon to come up, I took this image of the setting sun. Click here to see some previous river trail photos.

. . . a full Moon of rare size and beauty will rise in the east at sunset. It’s a super “perigee moon”–the biggest in almost 20 years.
