Desert Colors
The warmest year on record
finally experienced a hard freeze
on a clear December night
when the cold mountain air
pushed aside months of hot desert air —
cold enough to bring out the autumn colors
of the cottonwoods and sycamores
near the Tanque Verde wash
on this last day of 2017.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Oh, to be alive
when fall miracles
flourish for hiking
in the mountain’s
crisp morning air —
trail rocks
turning underfoot,
wildflower’s color vanishing
as nature’s
baton is passed
to towering trees
now showing their
kaleidoscopic colors
gently waving
beneath the blue sky
with joyful
interpretation by all
disregarding her
gesture of farewell.

(Overnight temps near freezing are beginning to bring on the mountains fall colors — much more to come.)

A week ago the Monday Morning Milers the Aspen Train on Mount Lemmon. It was a perfect time for seeing the autumn colors in the mountain woods.

Hiking In The Autumn Colors of Mount Lemmon — Images by kenne
Many of the bloggers I follow have posted beautiful images of autumn colors. They live in areas known for their autumn colors, one of nature’s best shows.
Living in the Sonoran Desert can limit one’s opportunity to capture images of the fall colors. However, many of the summer and fall trials we hike are in the Santa Catalina Mountains, which now have plenty of autumn colors.
Yesterday the Monday Morning Milers hiking group took to Sunset Trail on Mount Lemmon to experience autumn in its full regalia.
Autumn is about color
Red, yellow, green and blue
Does it matter?
My favorite color
May not be yours –
Does it matter?
Autumn leaves
May contain yours –
Does it matter?
A favorite season
May not be yours —
Does it matter?
When three are gone,
Green stays around –
Does it matter?
Does it matter?
Does it matter?
Does it matter?
