“SH*T HAPPENS!” — iPhone Image by kenne
After years of hiking and photo excursions, today I damaged my first DSLR camera, and it happened to be my latest one — Nikon D500. While taking photos in San Diego’s Balboa Park, I dropped the camera and lens breaking the bayonet fitting between the camera and the Nikon 28-300 lens. Like so many accidents, it was the result of a careless mistake.

Lonesome Gardenia — Image by kenne
The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday,
A day many families go shopping together,
Not Joy’s family — it’s off to the casino!
A family thing, but not my thing,
Being an “in the margins guy” —
I’m at the casino, but I’m not.
On this day after Thanksgiving
The rains came, lots of rain,
As we drove to Pala Casino.
By the time we arrived,
The rain had stopped —
now hoping for sunshine.
But, the clouds stayed behind,
Limiting the poolside scenery —
What’s a guy to do?
I could still Capture the moment —
Flowers, there are always flowers
In southern California.
Flowers enrich the casino landscape,
Including gardenia shrubs
Hedged along the spa walls.
Looking around, I could find only one
Gardenia blossom, a lonesome gardenia —
We had something in common.

Torrey Pines Golf Course — Image by kenne
This photo was taken January 16, 2013 along the coastal cliffs in La Jolla, just north of San Diego. Today the weather is not as agreeable — thick fog forced a long delay in the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

San Diego Coast — Images by kenne
Last week we drove from Oceanside to San Diego along the coastal highway. It was cool, in the 40’s, but a beautiful clear day.

By the beach border, where the breeze
Comes freighted from the briny seas,
By sandy bar and weedy rock,
I frequent meet thy roving flock;
Now hovering o’er the bending sedge,
Now gather’d at the ocean edge;
Probing the sands for shrimps and shells,
Or worms marine in hidden cells,
A restless and inconstant band,
Forever flitting o’er the sand.
Sandpiper!—haunting every shore
Where’er the waves of ocean roar;
Old voyagers that roam the deep
Tell that your dusky pinions sweep
O’er the remotest islands set
In ocean’s emerald coronet.
Far where Siberian coasts extend,
Far where Australian borders trend,
Far up the icy Labrador,
Far where the Mexic billows pour,
Are seen thy pinions, roving bird !
Thy melancholy note is heard.

Sader, Kenne, Claudia and Joy At Rotary Governor-Elect Conference In San Diego, January 16, 2013
Since our close friends, Antonio & Claudia Sader were in San Diego this week to take part in Rotary Governor-Elect training, Joy and I drove over to the southern California coast for a couple of days. We have known Sader and Claudia since we lead Group Study Exchange team to the other’s Rotary District.
