Decatur Street — French Quarter (2007) — Photo-Artistry by kenne
The Devil Wears French
In the diary of a sinner
there be a Toussaint
tainted with well too many overturesA colorful creole crayon
sashaying in a coupé de ville
Often times
snaking in wait at the nice bars
and gardens that belong to Eden
The women there be easy on the Jesus
Gumbo Genevieves smiling pretty
with their crests fallen like moon Indigo
and open to almost anything
especially a charmed tongue
Mon Chéri
it only cost a quarter for that French
Boyhood days in Eve’s bayou spent on
Bourbon street
becoming fluent in the devil’s language
A pig’s latin
the words tend to caress
Mon Chéri…
It only cost a quarter for that French

Over the years we have walked miles in the New Orleans French Quarter and the Garden District.
A few weeks ago while in Houston, we drove over to New Orleans for a couple of days.
Even though it was hot and humid we spent time photographing many scenes we have captured in the past —
there’s just something luring about this city.

Rouses Market, New Orleans — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Rouses Market is at the corner of St Phillip and Royal,
a block and a half from where we stayed,
Place D’Armes on St Annes.

Doors are for Opening (A Door In The French Quarter) — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Doors are for Opening
My serious apprehension of being
Is freed by acts of becoming —
Through the task of opening doors,
Where I learn from the past,
Laugh at today’s mistakes, and
Dream about tomorrow.

Late June Afternoon On Bourbon Street — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Full of the profane
We walk this temporal street
Yet something sacred.

Cathedral Alley, Jackson Square, New Orleans — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Jackson Square has many hidden wonders
As the morning fog climbs over the river banks.
When the sun opens old musky building cracks
When the cobblestone walk raises from its grave.
A breeze moves in bringing a touch of rain
Turning the smell of night to a fresh new day.
There’s a naked body moving down the alley
Leaving behind a senseless craving of desire.

Jackson Square Foggy Morning #2 — Photo-Artistry by kenne
you may see
what I see
doesn’t
really matter
to me
I was there
you were not
the feeling exists
without words
still the painting
may fill the void
with layers
and filters
creating
a new
human touch —
if you can feel it.

Foggy Morning In Jackson Square, New Orleans — Photo-Artistry by kenne
Christmas on the Square
Lights of the night are now out
Only red remains.
The fog settles low
After the celebrations
Hugs you to the bone.

“Play That Downhome Music” (New Orleans Street Musicians) — Photo-Artistry by kenne
The Chance of Rain
When it rains here, we soak
up to our ankles and down
from our hoods. You wouldn’t
believe all the water teeming
in the cracks of our streets and
sliding down the sidewalks
in thin, fleeting sheets. We
could almost be swept away.
