I didn’t realize how much I needed a “Diunna Fix” till I was out doing a morning walk listening to my iTunes music. I like to shuffle through the music, when “Growing Up and Growing Old” (On the CD, Trying To Hold On) started playing, which is one of my favorite Blues/Gospel tunes. I knew then, I would be listening to more Diunna today.

We are pleased to have known Diunna for about twenty years. Joy and I consider her a very close friend. And when it comes to singing the Blues, there’s none better. Here’s another video from the same show, in case you also need a “Diunna Fix.” Get a load of Jonn’s guitar playing need the end of this video, the Del Toro really comes out!

Jonn Del Toro Richardson Is “The Real Deal”   2 comments

Lately I have been listening to an Otis Taylor CD. Coincidentally, my friend Jonn Del Toro Richardson posts on Facebook a Otis Taylor, Gary Moore & Jonn Richardson video from 2006 — karma!

I’ve followed the musical career of Jonn over the last decade. The Blues world has a lot of great Bluesmen, but few as good, yet not recognized as Jonn. Yes, among Blues musicians Jonn is admired for his talent, but for many Blues fans he is under the radar. For years Jonn has toured with better known musicians, and collaborated on releasing CDs, but no solo CD — it’s time for his own CD!

Now there’s an opportunity to help Jonn reach his funding goal to produce his first solo album. Click here for more information.

Here are three of videos of Jonn I have done — yes, he is the “REAL DEAL!”

WE LOVE YOU, JONN!

The one thing I miss most about not living in southeast Texas is the abundance of great blues music. Over the years there, I got to see a lot of live music and get to know a lot of great musician — some who have become close friends over the years. And as I have already acknowledged in an earlier posting, I was very pleased to learn earlier this summer that Diunna Greenwood and Blue Mercy lead guitarist, Jonn Richardson were going to be heading this year’s Bisbee Blues Festival. We immediately made plans to be at the festival, but I let Diunna know that she needed to get a gig in Tucson — long story short, she was booked to perform in the Rhythm & Roots Concert Series with special guest Bob Corritore, which took place this past Friday, September 14, 2012. This video is one of several I recorded.

Embodied in this award-winning Texas blues singer, Diunna is the voice of female blues singer legends. This video is almost ten minutes long, but short of having been at the plaza, you will find it well worth the listen, especially with good speakers or ear phones.

Diunna & Joy

This weekend Diunna Greenleaf and her band, Blue Mercy will be in Tucson and Bisbee — Friday night as part of the Rhythm & Roots Series in Tucson, then Saturday she will be headlining the Bisbee Blues Festival. Diunna is a popular Houston blues singer that Joy and I have known since 1999, when she worked with some Montgomery County blues lovers to form the Friends of The Blues – Montgomery County and start an educational blues series at Montgomery College.

Diunna’s blues style is her own, developed from the legendary male & female Texas blues singers. Diunna and Blue Mercy have performed throughout the United States and Internationally.

This year Diunna has been nominated for the “Koko Taylor Award-Traditional Blues Female” and “Traditional Blues Album-Trying To Hold On” at the 2012 Blues Music Awards in Memphis, TN on May 5th, 2012. Her new CD “Trying To Hold On” s #1 on XM/Sirius Radio Bluesville Chart, #1 on French Blues charts, #1 on Living Blues charts for December, and is at the top of Blues charts in UK, Australia and USA.

If you are in the Tucson area this weekend, I urge you to go see Diunna — you will witness some of the best blues anywhere. We are looking forward to seeing Diunna and the band.

If you are into Arizona blues, then you know Bob Corritore. He will be Diunna’s special guest, both in Tucson and Bisbee.
