During our recent visit to Mesa Verde National Park, I watched a Park Ranger at a demo table doing something we as naturalists do at Sabino Canyon to education visitors to the canyon — couldn’t pass up taking a photo and watching the child’s reaction.

I’ve seen (and worked in) alternative classrooms where kids grow vegetables and make solar panels (and do a lot of other hands-on, great things. I’ve seen a lot of so-called regular classrooms where the kids sit with musty, stale books in rooms that should not have so many children with only one teacher.
Children learn best from doing things with nature. Notice the child is touching a skull and he knows he has her attention.
