A Coachwhip Snake In A Palo Verde Tree — Image by kenne
He moved quickly across the road before me.
Trying to ready my camera, I followed him into the brush.
Thinking I had lost an opportunity to photograph him
when I saw him climbing a nearby palo verde tree.
This time I was ready as he twisted his long black body
up the tree before going out a dead limb as if to pose.

Coachwhip Snake in Sabino Canyon — Image by kenne
I first spotted this snake crossing Bear Canyon road. Couchwipe snakes are fast,
so I moved quickly as he climbed a Palo Verde tree to capture this image.
This coachwhip was about 3 feet long.
