‘Weed’ On the Patio — Photo-Artistry by kenne
I have subscribed to The New Yorker for years and find it helpful to see things from different perspectives; some I like, some I don’t. Many great writers, some of which I agree with, some I don’t. It’s all a matter of perspective, which is what this poem is all about — It’s only boogie-woogie.
BOOGIE-WOOGIE
You shout from the other room
You ask me how to spell boogie-woogie
And instantly I think what luck
no war has been declared
no fire has consumed
our city’s monuments
our bodies our dwellings
The fiver didn’t flood
no friends
have been arrested
It’s only boogie-woogie
I sign relieved
and say it’s spelled just as it sounds
boogie-woogie

Life needs contrast to give us perspective.
By increasing contrast,
we increase clarity,
achieving an erotic form of dark inspiration,
thus providing definition
to the same shades of gray —
“concrete shapes in search of their void.”

For years I have use the phrase, “Get the big picture.” I do so because it best conveys my attitude and my advice in order to be best positioned to perceive life and make decisions. So, in this time of “Just Google It!” I did. As with any search, there were thousands of hits, but standing out among them were two new finds:
http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/
and a site powered by WordPress, The Big Picture, by Barry Ritholtz
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/
Both are excellent sites with quality written and visual information that can become important parts of your “big picture”. In this age of digital media, they are among the best.
Today, Barry Ritholtz posted this Mark Fiore animated cartoon, “Clip On”:
