Desert Broomrape (Orobanche cooperi),
also known as Cooper’s broomrape, spike broomrape, and burroweed strangler.
Because the Desert Broomrape lacks leaves and chlorophyll,
it gets its nutrients from a host plant and is therefore a parasite.
