Clouds But No Monsoon, Yet — Image by kenne
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Clouds At Sunset Over The Santa Catalina Mountains — Image by kenne
Forecast
(Mark 4:26-29)
The sky is full threat: the wind billows
black clouds from the mountains.
The calving heifers twitch tails
in the stable, ignored by horses
and cats who live by milk, mice.
My son and I scan the valley for our collie,
but, pursuing some heavenly scent
he is far from the electricity that runs off,
guilty. By fire and flashlight I read
of the prodigal. At the door during lightning
strokes we hear our dog, whimpering.
My son pulls the wet, smelly beast in, hugs
him to a place by the fire, covers dirty
matted hair with a good towel as I turn
to the parable of the seed sown.
— Cleatus Rattan
