There is something
about hiking
in the desert —
I’ve met that
something.
If your heart
was like mine
you would get it
and be with me.

A Morning Hike In Saguaro National Park Hike-East (01/03/20)– Image by kenne
On the trail a morning haze
Slowly disappears as the sun
Lifts over the mountains
Across rocks and cactus
Leaving behind still air
Warmed as the sun
Moves desert shadows
Plants shinning with dew
A picture I try to capture
Lost in the passing moment
Hiking the desert trails
Looking down the miles
Collecting memories
To be lost with time
But not in mind.

See you on the trail
Dancing creosols stir the air
Lost in the beauty.

Some critic tried to put me down —
“Your poems lack the Basic Truth of Tao”
And I recall the old-times
Who were poor and didn’t care.
I have to laugh at him,
He misses the point entirely,
Men like that
Ought to stick to making money.
— Gary Snyder
