Desert Spiny On Rock — Image by kenne

Desert Spiny on Rock

Sun burns high and narrow,
a lizard still in the shadows,
perched on ancient stone.

Scales like chipped mosaic,
colors born of contrast,
catch the noonday glare.

Eyes unblinking, sharp,
reading like a sacred text,
guarding its small world.

Not seeking to flee,
but to vanish in the light —
a spiny cloaked in calm.
