“If a man can’t piss in his own front yard, he’s livin’ too close to town.”

— Edward Abbey, re Tom Russell

“Ed died one day at sundown, in his Tucson writing shack
They wrapped him in a sleeping bag, and drove him way out back
Beneath the wild Saguaro, the coyotes chewed Ed’s bones
And on the hidden marker, was “No comment” carved in.”

— from “The Ballad of Edward Abbey” by Tom Russell

Benediction: Edward Abbey, by Tom Russell

Be loyal to what you love, be true to the earth, fight your enemies with passion and laughter. ~Edward Abbey

  1. This made me smile as a cowboy artist friend of mine who lives in Arizona told me that if I was around when he died, he wanted wrapped in his sleeping bag with his bones left for the coyotes. How interesting that more than one artistic soul would want their body left in the nature they love.

CHRISTMAS PAST #11 — It must be something about this time of year, but again I find myself thinking of Edward Abbey. So, rather than doing a new post I share one from a few years back and Tom Russell is a master at channeling Abbey. — kenne
