Bourbon Street Before The New Year’s Crowd — Image by kenne

New Orleans

Dancing
underneath city lights,
jazz bands
reverberating, breathing in
voodoo shop
musk.

Soul
pulsates beneath
cobblestone,
wide eyes
peering up at
beaded balconies on
Frenchman Street.

Freedom is
coffee and baguettes from
Cafe Du Monde at
midnight,
surrounded by strangers.

Find me under strings of
flickering bulbs,
trading trails with
travelers.

Candlelit doorways illuminate the drifters, the curious, the backpackers, the Kerouacs,
the way to the gypsies past
Bourbon.

But not home.

Capturing The Moment — Child With Pinwheel   2 comments

Pinwheel

You’re the wind
And I’m the pinwheel
You like to see me spin
When I stop
You fix me up
Until I twirl again
I can’t help
The way I turn
The cycles that I take
But you’re a force
You’ve got a say
And sometime you say “break”
Now it’s clear
For me to function
I need but one gust
So tell me why
I’m on this shelf
Just collecting dust.
