Sunrise On Wildhorse Trail — Image by kenne

Sunrise, Wildhorse Trail

At first,
only the hush of desert air,
the pale outlines of rock.

Then light arrives—
slow spilling over the Rincons,
finding its way through
the arms of a saguaro,
each one lifted,
as if in invocation.

The trail holds me still.
I breathe the cactus gathers fire.
For a moment
the earth itself
remembers how to
call on the spirits.
