Ashamed, yeah —   4 comments

Photo-artistry by kenne

ashamed, yeah—
to be american,
to watch the lies crawl
out of every tv set,
to see men with soft hands
wave flags
while kids go hungry.

this isn’t a dream,
it’s a bad hangover
that won’t end.

still,
I light up a smoke,
watch the sun drag itself
over the busted horizon,
and wonder
how much longer
before the whole damn thing
goes up in flames.

  1. There is truth in this poem, Kenne. Truth.

  2. I felt a need to write something about our condition. Thanks for the comment.

  3. Rx for stinkin’ thinkin’:

    Turn off the news

Tune in to several episodes of Petey Mesquitey

Replace tobacco with a toke or two of high-quality Indica cannabis

Sip some fine whisky with potent ginger ale over rocks

Go for a hike in the desert

Stand outside naked in a Sonoran Desert thunder-lightning-wind-rain storm

Certain to greatly improve one’s outlook and understanding of what really matters in Life

  4. Thank you for the suggestions. Believe me, I’ve done all those things. My problem is I can’t stop caring about this country.
