Mark May at the Old Rhythm Room In Houston (09/13/03) — Collage by kenne

I learned about the death of another blues legend, Mark May, from my blues friend, Sonny Boy Terry, on Instagram.

Like so many Blues fans in Houston, he will be sorely missed.

  1. I am in disbelief. Beyond sad. Just numb. What a beautiful human being with so much unrecognized talent.

  2. I am in total SHOCK. He was extraordinary. And YES, he should have been on the BIG stage, so talented… I am in tears.

  3. It is quite the irony

  4. 1st time I saw him was at Marshall Blues in Sept/Oct, 1995…had long blonde hair. Good singer, great guitarist, all around cool guy! Seen him playing with his band a number of times since. Thanks Mark. RIP.

  5. I am sad….another major loss…I’ll hold on to memories…I watched a recent interview last night…his style was phenomenal…and I can’t believe that I am speaking in past tense..
He’s with Joann (his Sweet mom) now…so glad I got to meet her also… R.I.P. Mark May

  6. Mark and I met several years ago when he was with Dickey Betts and then again at the Nashville Guitar show a few years back and we just hit it off as friends he even came down and visited my store Atlanta Vintage Guitars and was even thinking about moving to Atlanta and he came and sat in with my country rock band The Dixie Tornados and we chatted on the phone and when I read about his accident i just cried just a wonderful mellow and loving guy who had beat cancer and then to have this happen why God why ? Just a very loving and caring guy !! I still have his number in my phone just dont want to erase it …a great talent very intense player with a great touch ! And a unique singer !!
