Window on the Past — Image by kenne

The wind moves unnoticed through the window
like the memory of forgotten times
punctuated by years of drought
where water no longer moves
atop the creek beds, and cattle no longer roam,
each not sustainable in the basin
below the Tortolita Mountains
where desert bushes and cactus
have replaced the grasslands
near a pass trail once used by the
Overland Stagecoach Company.
