Of the many trails in Sabino Canyon, one nice short trail is down alone Sabino Creek by the dam. This area is very picturesque when there is water running in the creek, less so during the dry season. Typically, during the hot-dry weather of early summer, camp fires are not allowed. But that doesn’t mean that everyone adheres to the rules. Several weeks ago, some young boys started a campfire a short distance from the dam under a canopy of tall trees. As might be expected the fire got out of control and burned a large area before it was brought under control. A few days ago, I was in the area for the first time in a couple of months. It was sad to see what the draught has done to the plants, let along, the fire damage. Hopefully, some of the trees will come back to life next spring.
