Capturing The Moment — Greater Short-Horned Lizard   8 comments

Greater Short-Horned Lizard — Images by kenne

Since we have been hiking on Mount Lemmon this summer, I’ve seen the short-horned lizard several times, but never went to the trouble to photograph one till yesterday. It’s not easy to pass up the opportunity when several naturalists are gathered around the little guy along the Marshall Gulch Trail. The short-horned lizard is more common to the higher elevations and can often be found sunning in the mid-morning sun as he was when we photographed him. They rely  on camouflage to avoid predators and/or humans, which may account for the different appearances in the above photos — or it could be the photographer?
