We are all aware that most families are very dysfunctional — so much so that family dysfunctionality is so common that it’s normal, therefore no longer fulfilling the definition — “. . . the condition that disallows someone or something to function or perform as expected in a norm or standard.” Look at how most of us behave at family gatherings over the holidays, and why not, it’s part of what makes the time so special and a hell of a lot better than being alone. Since most of us can relate to family “dysfunctional-normality,” it’s not surprising that, in a relatively short time, Robert Earl Keen’s “Merry Christmas from The Family” has become a Christmas classic.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! And may all your holiday gatherings be dysfunctionally normal.
