As An Aggie, The 2012 Heisman Trophy Is For Us!   Leave a comment

My first memories of the Heisman Trophy and Texas A&M was when I was playing high school football in the late 50’s and heard about the ’57 Heisman Trophy winner, John David Crow. Last night, freshman quarterback, Johnny Manziel (Johnny Football), was awarded the 2012 Heisman Trophy, making him the first freshman ever to win this coveted award.

“It’s a great feeling to know people are looking up to me in the aspect of being here at the Heisman Trophy in New York,” he said.

“It makes me feel like a kid again, like I used to look up to people, and it’s a great feeling.”

One writer shouted, “You’re still a kid.”

“I still am. I just turned 20 [Thursday],” Manziel replied. “I’m out of the teen stage, I guess.”

P.S. In addition to my having received a doctorate at A&M, three of our five children have received degrees form A&M (not diminishing the fine institutions of Texas Tech and the University of Houston).

Call Him Johnny Heisman!
