We are all aware that most families are very dysfunctional — so much so that family dysfunctionality is so common that it’s normal, therefore no longer fulfilling the definition — “. . . the condition that disallows someone or something to function or perform as expected in a norm or standard.” Look at how most of us behave at family gatherings over the holidays, and why not, it’s part of what makes the time so special and a hell of a lot better than being alone. Since most of us can relate to family “dysfunctional-normality,” it’s not surprising that, in a relatively short time, Robert Earl Keen’s “Merry Christmas from The Family” has become a Christmas classic.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! And may all your holiday gatherings be dysfunctionally normal.
Seattle continues to create great music. The Head and the Heart, although made up of mostly transplants, this new group captures that folk/rock sound common the the great northwest and appreciated very much in the southwest (Tucson).
The Texas Tornados are going to by playing at Plaza Palomino in Tucson, 8:00 p.m., October 16th. This super Tejano group was formed in 1990. With the death of original group members, Doug Sahm in 1999 and Freddy Fender in 2006, most thought that it was the end of the Tornados. But, they are back with Doug Sahm’s son, Shawn filling his father’s shoes, and with members Augie Meyers and Flaco Jiménez, they have released the Tornados first album in a decade.
Here’s a great video (1992) of the original Tornados at Gruene Hall in Gruene, Texas, doing “Mendocino,” the Sir Douglas Quintet super oldie.

Our attitudes about smoking may have changed, but not our love for great music.
Here are two musicians whose music will always be for all seasons.
