It was during the 1950’s that I first became a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. It was during this time that I began following the career of legendary QB/kicker, George Blanda. Blanda spent the decade of the fifties with Chicago (My teenage years.), followed by seven years with the Houston Oilers and the remainder of the 26 years in professional football with the Oakland Raiders. Therefore, it was with much sadness when I learned that Blanda died yesterday at the age of 83.

“If you put him in a group of most-competitive, biggest-clutch players, I think he’d have to be the guy who would win it all,” his Raiders coach, John Madden, said in a phone interview Monday. “He was the most competitive guy that I ever knew.” (source: Los Angeles Times)
