ON THIS I AGREE!

“My fellow Americans: We are a country in debt and in decline — not terminal, not irreversible, but in decline. Our political system seems incapable of producing long-range answers to big problems or big opportunities. We are the ones who need a better-functioning democracy — more than the Iraqis and Afghans. We are the ones in need of nation-building. It is our political system that is not working.” — Tom Friedman N.Y. Times June 29, 2008

  1. But we live in a representative democracy. The political system that exists is a reflection of society. Mr. Friedman, please don’t bash the government as if it is some external entity, when it is just doing what it is suppose to do, which is represent. Mr. Friedman, have you seen the latest numbers of the amount of household debt and dysfunction? I am confident that if we as a nation could own up to our own debt, than our government, being a reflection of a society, would start balancing its budget.

    God Bless!

  2. BDO,

Thanks for you comment. We do live in a “representative democracy,” but the issue is, “Who does our form of democracy represent?” Surely not the people!

When it comes to individual or national debt, the key is to act in a responsible way. If you can’t pay it back in a responsible manner, then don’t spend it!
