On this day of remembrance for a very special American, I share with you a piece written by a former journalist and posted on his blog, Kiko’s House — http://kikoshouse.blogspot.com/2010/01/never-ending-struggle-for-civil-rights.html
Sadly, we continue to suffer a disease that causes many to humanize people of color. Have you noticed how the mainstream media has been so much more willing to show the horrific images from Haiti that normally are not shown, or at least prefaced by a warning that the images you are about to see may be disturbing? Is it because of the color of their skin?
The media tends to sterilize images as part of reporting on man-made or natural disasters when the images contain white people, versus people of color. I sense a real disconnect. We remain a racist society.
