Yucca Plant At I-10 Reststop — HDR Image by kenne

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.

The earth, that is sufficient,
I do not want the constellations any nearer,
I know they are very well where they are,
I know they suffice for those who belong to them.

— from Song of the Open Road by Walt Whitman

  1. Great perspective! 👍

    • Thanks.
Drove through the Hill Country on I-10 today on our way to visit family and friends in Houston. In spite of the crazy drivers on the highway, we made it.

      • Glad you made it without an accident.

      • P.S.: If you call drivers on US highways crazy, what the would you call German drivers on the Autobahn? 😉 I’m talking of over 60 years of experience of driving in Germany.

        • I have never driven on the Autobahn, but have heard about how crazy it can be. I would guess that no one has a monopoly on having crazy drivers — they’re like shit, they’re everywhere.

          • I like driving on highways here in the US much better than on the Autobahnen in Germany. You might not believe it, but it really is so much more relaxed here.
